Reclamo AI

Reclamo AI

A multilingual, mobile-first AI assistant that helps workers in New York understand their wage rights, spot wage theft, and connect to legal aid.

Project Description

Reclamo AI (Beta) is a pilot digital assistant designed to increase access to wage justice for low-income and immigrant workers in New York State. Built by Justicia Lab, a program of Pro Bono Net, in partnership with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), this mobile-first, AI-powered tool helps users understand their rights under wage and hour laws, recognize signs of wage theft, and locate nearby legal assistance.

It is currently in a Testing and Evaluation pilot stage.

Workers interact with Reclamo AI through a chat interface—typing or sending voice messages in multiple languages. The tool responds with accurate, plain-language information derived from verified legal content about New York wage laws. While the assistant does not provide legal advice, it offers pathways to trusted legal aid organizations, helping users navigate toward reliable help.

Designed for mobile use and accessibility, Reclamo AI targets the information gap that many workers face in understanding employment protections. The pilot focuses on user experience, linguistic inclusivity, and the integration of vetted legal content. It also builds in clear disclaimers and privacy protections: users are informed that the tool is in beta, that it does not substitute for legal advice, and that their chats may be reviewed for evaluation purposes.

Early evaluation focuses on clarity of information, accuracy within the scope of New York law, user trust, and pathways to action. Feedback from community-based organizations, legal service providers, and end-users will inform the next phases of development, including feature refinement, expansion beyond New York, and improved integration with legal aid referral systems.
