Upsolve AI Paralegal
An AI tool that reviews bankruptcy petitions at Upsolve, the nonprofit that helps low-income families file for bankruptcy without a lawyer.

About This Project
Upsolve is a nonprofit whose free tool helps low-income people file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy without a lawyer. Their team built an AI Paralegal to take on the repetitive work of reviewing bankruptcy petitions. The system is a RAG-based setup that helps the users on a specific part of the overall Upsolve tool and bankruptcy process. The AI paralegal can see where the user is in the process and help them overcome error messages and troubleshooting needs.
Upsolve says the tool helped it more than double the number of low-income families it serves each year.
Upsolve was founded in Harvard Law School's Access to Justice Lab in 2016. In March 2026, it announced that it had helped erase more than $1 billion in debt.
